Ana de Armas’ Eve Macarro Is Out for Blood in New Trailer
In just three weeks, From the World of John Wick: Ballerina will finally hit theaters, the Ana de Armas–fronted spin-off that will bring both newness and familiarity to the Keanu Reeves–helmed franchise. A final trailer has arrived ahead of the film’s June 6, 2025, release date.
Ballerina‘s events take place during John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum. Released in 2019, Parabellum had seen the now “excommunicado” John Wick (Keanu Reeves) evade an eight-million-dollar bounty from the High Table after gunning down crime boss Santino D’Antonio on the grounds of the Continental Hotel. On the run across New York City, Wick came into contact with the Ruska Roma, a powerful crime syndicate that trained him and sheltered him.
The crime family was led by a woman known as the Director (Anjelica Huston), and their hall was a unique one in that their ballerina trainees were also highly trained assassins. In Parabellum, one of these ballerina-assassins was seen in a quick establishing scene, dancing on stage. Unity Phelan played that ballerina, and now her character is getting the spotlight in Ballerina with Ana de Armas in the lead role.
In addition to Huston, several other faces from the John Wick franchise have also been confirmed to be part of Ballerina‘s cast. Ian McShane will return as Winston, the Continental manager. Fans will also see Lance Reddick, who sadly passed away in March 2023, for one last time as the Continental concierge, Charon. The bittersweet third trailer for Ballerina, released in March 2025, was a tribute to Reddick and his character.
Gabriel Byrne is the latest addition to the Ballerina cast and will play the antagonist, Chancellor. Sharon Duncan-Brewster and Norman Reedus also join, with the former playing Eve’s mentor, Nogi, and the latter as Daniel Pine. Catalina Sandino Moreno and David Castañeda also star in the film, but their roles are currently under wraps.
Ana de Armas Takes Center Stage, but She’s Not the Only Wick Warrior in Town
Ballarina‘s first trailer was released in September 2024 and put its focus on Eve’s backstory. A young girl who lost her parents at an early age, Eve became part of the Ruska Roma with the singular goal of avenging the murder of her father. Early buzz on the film suggested it would be more personal and emotional, with Keanu Reeves’ John Wick playing a supporting role.
The film’s second trailer, released in March 2025, quelled those concerns by giving the audience a better idea of how much of a John Wick film this is. In that new teaser, the titular hero and Ana de Armas’ Eve have an intense rendezvous, meeting for the first time in a snowy environment with lingering smoke. A fleeting moment of what appeared to be friendship was noted by fans as a possible hint that John Wick would have more of a presence in the film.
It’s apparent in the final trailer that viewers can expect both of these things. It still hones in on Eve, opening with an ominous close-up of her face as she’s in the scope of Wick’s gun. A montage of stylized fight sequences, punctuated with new and previously-released footage from the film, follows as Eve squares off against one villain after another in a series of brutal engagements. In addition to her hand-to-hand fighting, Ana de Armas also fires her guns in Ballerina, making for a well-rounded action showcase that gives the actor the chance to flex her brawling bona fides.
The line, “This isn’t done until they’re dead,” was the summary statement on Eve’s mission as a ballerina-assassin, further establishing the revenge tale she’ll follow through on in the film. It’s also a way of setting up the expectations for what Ballerina will be. From John Wick: Chapter 2 or the 2014 original, fans have come to know the franchise as one with violence that, while frenetic, is almost operatic in its grace and sheer balletic beauty.
In that regard, Ballerina appears to have no problem standing on its own, even as it differentiates itself by taking the John Wick franchise in a new direction. Even with Keanu Reeves’ John Wick in the picture, Ana de Armas has a chance to take over the film and serve as the audience’s entry point into the world and mythology that director Chad Stahelski has been building throughout five feature films now.
From the World of John Wick: Ballerina waltzes into theaters on June 6, 2025.
